Sentry™ BMC
Bandwidth Management Center
Sentry™ BMC is a bandwidth management solution that leverages two existing Crystal products:
- Sentry™ spectrum monitor and recording
- Crystal's monitor and control system:
Sentry™ BMC can be tailored and customized to fulfill bandwidth monitoring needs such as FCSA (Future COMSATCOM Services Acquisition) contract fulfillment. FCSA-like applications can include integration with:
- Payload monitoring systems (e.g. Complan®, OFPS) to create dynamic monitoring schemes.
- Crystal's antenna control systems to move and dwell - using hardware efficiently in order to monitor bandwidth across multiple satellite, transponders, and carriers.
Crystal's monitor and control ("M & C") system, together with Sentry™ BMC, creates an integrated approach to bandwidth monitoring that is easily tailored, configured, and leverages existing hardware.
Sentry™ BMC Architecture
Sentry™ BMC is built on and uses the Crystal Monitor and Control system platform that has proven to be:
- exceptional robust stability
- scalable - Crystal regularly provides real-time monitor and control solutions spanning the globe, integrating with other control systems and databases, and controlling thousands of devices
The architecture, for the BMC application is shown below.

Architecture is as follows (see drawing above): Most applications would have spectrum analyzers (and/or other spectral analysis hardware), a Crystal server, and Sentry™ distributed among several remote monitoring sights.
Payload Management System Integration
These systems may be integrated with Sentry™ BMC to automatically configure or re-configure spectral monitoring dynamically. Crystal can interface with:
- Complan™
- OFPS
- Remedy™
Remote Users cloud
Users may access the network to monitor and/or command remotely located spectral analysis hardware and compare actual readings to user-defined limits. In effect, provided the network configuration is set up to do so, any user can access, monitor, and control anything on the entire network - whether it is at Remote Monitoring sites or at the Sentry™ BMC hub.

Architecture
Sentry™ BMC cloud
This represents the hub through which Sentry™ BMC can be managed. Here:
- multiple operator workstations are set up to monitor defined spectra
- a server fitted with a database repository polls Remote Monitoring sites for information the remotes have gleaned from the spectra monitored at each
- system configuration is managed and maintained
- monitoring is performed and alarm notifications investigated
- client-specified reports are generated and/or archived
Remote Monitoring Sites 1 to N
Each remote site is typically fitted with a Crystal server with Sentry™ and spectral analysis hardware. Remote monitoring sites:
- receive configuration instructions from users: local, remote, and/or at the Sentry™ BMC hub
- effect the command and control of spectral analysis hardware, retrieve, and archive collected data
- transfer archived data to the Sentry™ BMC database
Common optional features include:
- L-Band router control: to enable routing of multiple spectrum to the analysis hardware
- Antenna control: to employ antennas efficiently to monitor spectra on different satellites
